About Transferring
If you are considering transferring to a new fostering agency, the team at Sunbeam Fostering Northwest is here to support you every step of the way. Foster carers can transfer from their current fostering agency or from a Local Authority, and there are many reasons why someone may choose to explore this option. Whatever your circumstances, you are fully entitled to look into transferring, and we’re here to make the process as smooth and straightforward as possible.

You’re already familiar with fostering, and the assessment process is often quicker the second time compared with your initial application.
You will still need to complete a fostering assessment and attend panel, and the Sunbeam Fostering Northwest team will update and finalise all required checks.
Our team has extensive experience supporting foster carers through the transfer process. We maintain open, positive communication with your current agency or local authority to ensure a smooth and well coordinated transition.
For more information on the next steps and the full process, please see our Transfer Process below.
We would love to hear from you and are here to answer any questions you may have about transferring.
Step 1
Contact us and discuss your transfer
Get in touch through our Call Back Request or by calling 01253 311 322. We will discuss your current fostering situation, the transfer process, and your support needs, including carer payment levels and planning.
Step 2
Decide to transfer and share notice
Once you decide to transfer, you provide your “intention” to transfer to your current fostering agency or Local Authority and complete an application form.
Step 3
Assessment process begins
We will allocate an experienced Form F assessor who will carry out your assessment and visit you regularly. We will also complete the required checks and references.
Step 4
Focused training plan
We will review your experience and skills to develop a targeted training plan. We can also discuss whether attending Skills to Foster would be helpful.
Step 5
Transfer protocol meeting
If you have children currently placed, we will arrange a meeting with the Local Authorities to plan the move, ensure safeguarding, and support positive outcomes for the child or young person.
Step 6
Panel stage
Once your assessment and checks are complete, you will attend Sunbeam Fostering Northwest’s fostering panel, which will make a recommendation to the Agency Decision Maker.
Step 7
Welcome to Sunbeam Fostering Northwest
After the final decision, you become approved foster carers with Sunbeam Fostering Northwest. You then give a final 28 day notice to your current fostering agency or Local Authority. After the 28 days, your transfer is complete - welcome aboard!
